What do you want from your ceremony? How do you want to feel? Traditional or unusual? Small and intimate or large and loud?
Whatever it is your unique ceremony will let you do it, as long as it’s not perverted or against the law of course! And it can be where and when you want it too as there are no restrictions on place or time (you might have to get permission if you want to use a farmers field though, or at the top of Emley Moor mast, Yorkshire folk will know this place– now that would be a cool venue if you're not afraid of heights!) By the way, did you know that whatever venue you choose it does NOT need to be licensed for weddings, so this might save you a bob or two. You have many more choices with a celebrant.
This is YOUR celebration so remember, it IS about YOU and yours, not about how much money you spend or keeping up with the Jones'.
I generally cover Yorkshire, Lancashire, Durham, Southern parts of Northumberland, Cumbria, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire, and North Lincolnshire but I can travel further if required. Travel over 50 miles (from my base in Cumbria) will be charged at 45p per mile and accommodation (if needed) will be charged at cost.
My job is to ensure that you celebrate your occasion in a way that is appropriate and comfortable for YOU. To do this I will listen, I will ask questions (loads) so I get to know how you think, how you tick, what is important to you, how you want to feel on the day and how you want your guests to feel. Armed with this information I will create your exclusive, truly personal ceremony that will let your personality shine, express your feelings, show your support, unleash your humour, or proclaim your undying love and devotion.
A note about the legal stuff
As a Celebrant I can NOT legally marry you, so you need to do this with your local Register Office. Book an appointment (29 days-notice required) take two witnesses and say the legal words, sign the book, 15 minutes, and Bob’s your uncle! I'll talk with you about this.
Born and bred in Yorkshire so like their finest tea, I am a blend of characteristics; caring, fun-loving, creative, and practical. I can be straightforward and casual, eloquent, and sophisticated but always with a good old-fashioned Yorkshire down-to-earthiness.
I am married to Mark, who often comes along to the ceremonies I do to take a few photos (with permission of course). We currently live by the sea in Cumbria, but the roots of Yorkshire have still got a hold on me and maybe one day we'll move back.
I like a glass of wine (or two ), a nice meal (which Mark often cooks he’s pretty handy that way), good friends, walks by the sea, films, music, nature and of course, Superheroes (who doesn’t like superheroes?!)
Although my background is in training and development my most recent career was as a Deputy Superintendent Registrar for a County Council. In this role, I legally married couples as well as conducting other ceremonies such as baby naming and renewal of vows. I conducted over 150 ceremonies and learned a lot about the issues facing the happy couple; from the perils of having a ‘big’ dress to dealing with animals at ceremonies, and because of this I can offer a few hints and tips you may find useful. I loved the work but felt I could offer couples much more choice if I became a celebrant ...... so I did!
