Am I the right celebrant for you?
I’m a down-to-earth true Yorkshire bred celebrant (in Cumbria - temporary visa!) and like Yorkshire’s famous tea I’m a blend of characteristics; warm, caring, fun-loving, creative, practical, no-nonsense approach, and sometimes just a little bit crazy. I can be straightforward and casual or eloquent and sophisticated but asking me to put on a posh accent might be pushing it a bit! I can talk clearly though so don’t worry if your guests aren’t from Yorkshire, they will still be able to understand me.
My celebrant business is fairly new but that doesn’t mean I’m not experienced. Prior to training as a celebrant, I was a Deputy Superintendent Registrar for a County Council conducting legal marriage ceremonies as well as naming ceremonies and renewal of vows.
I have conducted over 200 ceremonies and learned a lot about the issues facing the happy couple; from the perils of having a ‘big’ dress to dealing with animals at ceremonies, and because of this I can offer a few hints and tips you may find useful. I started my business as a celebrant because I felt I could offer couples much more choice, more flexibility, and much more attention, without the restrictions of a Civil or Religious marriage.
I am married to Mark, who escorts me to the ceremonies, partly for the day out but mainly to take a few photos (with permission of course) to put on my website. We both love dogs but feel our home and our lifestyle (that is pre-Covid) is not one that would be suitable for a dog, so we are holding off for now (but the urge is strong). I love to see dogs at weddings especially when they are the ring bearer!
I like a laugh by way of comedy films, shows, comedians, and Mark! My favourite comedians used to be Morecambe and Wise but that may have been because my Dad looked like Eric and could do the paper bag trick just as well as him. I love Superhero and action films; they are my escapism!
And I love nature. We have bird feeders to encourage birds into our garden (we even give them names, the birds not the bird feeders!) and a small wild-flower garden for the bees and butterflies, and of course living by the sea is so calming and inspiring. On stormy days I love to watch the big waves crashing on the rocks and on a misty day I look for ghosts ships and sea monsters, alas I haven’t seen any yet …. but I’m forever hopeful! We are so lucky to have the ocean on one side and the lakes on the other.
Whether you want your ceremony to be simple, sincere, and straightforward or awesome fun and a little bit mad – I’m your girl!
I believe every couple deserves to have their special day exactly as they want it, (after all that’s why I became a celebrant) and although the ceremony is only a small part of the whole day it is HEART around which the rest is planned. So, if I can make that part of your day magical, memorable and unique then I would be privileged to be part of your day and help make you happy.
Because it is such a personal occasion you need to be comfortable with the people taking part so before you make any decision as to if I am the right celebrant for you, we will have a virtual cup of tea (or tipple) together. Then if we click (you’ll have time to think about it) we will discuss and make plans together.
To give you what you want I will delve into your love life (ooh err!) to uncover your love story and what makes you tick. Armed with your dossier of the intimate ins and outs of your relationship (!!!!) I will create your exclusive ceremony that will let your personalities shine, express your feelings, unleash your humour, and proclaim your undying love and devotion. Whether you are introverts or extroverts your ceremony will be created for both of you and delivered with Yorkshire warmth, grace and panache!
Younger and better looking than now!
A note about the legal stuff
As a Celebrant I can NOT legally register your marriage, so you need to do this with your local Register Office. Book an appointment (minimum of 28 days-notice required) take two witnesses and say the legal words, sign the book, 15 minutes, and Bob’s your uncle! I'd be happy to talk with you about how to organise this.
