Eloping is such a romantic idea; climbing out of the bedroom window in the middle of the night to meet each other, throwing a change of clothes into the back of the car and driving through the night to Gretna Green to get married in secret. It’s the stuff romantic films are made of.
These days you don’t have to jump out of a bedroom window (hopefully) and you don’t have to go to Gretna. You can elope to anywhere, near or far.
Think of a place that is special to you, perhaps where you first met or had your first kiss (unless it was the back seat of a car – then again there are stranger places for an elopement – maybe!) under the tree where you carved your initials in a heart, or just a place you fell in love with; by a babbling brook, on the shores of a lake or the ocean, in a beautiful green woodland, or a meadow full of colourful wild flowers. Your choices are only limited by your imagination and the romance (and fun) in your heart.
Ceremonies for elopements are carefully planned and written and unique to you. Whatever way you choose to make your promises and commitments, you will be expressing your love for each other YOUR way.
Elopements are normally booked 3- 6 months in advance but depending on my availability and time to plan and create your ceremony, they could be done with less notice.
Even with Covid restrictions in place an elopement is still an option as the only people present (usually) are the couple and the celebrant. But, if you want, you can have others with you to bear witness, (subject to Government restrictions at the time).
Note: In England if you want to legalise your marriage you will need to arrange this separately at your local Register Office. Once booked it just takes a few minutes, a few words and signatures with two witnesses, preferably done before the elopement and again, can be done in secret. Even if you decide on Gretna you still have to do these legalities.
If you would like more information or to discuss your elopement plans, please get in touch for a no obligation chat. I conduct elopement ceremonies mainly in the Lake District in Cumbria, but I am willing to travel to your favourite location (subject to travel expenses).
