Would it be a small intimate gathering of the most important people in your life to share in the happiness of your special day? Would it be in a beautiful setting, perhaps a woodland scene or a simple ceremony in your own back garden where your family and friends can share in the atmosphere of happiness and laughter (yes you can have humour at a wedding) Would it be an informal affair with your guests joining in and being part of the ceremony and do you want to be able to remember the day and everyone there?
Or would you prefer a grand affair so you can shout and declare your love to the world? Elegant and stylish based on tradition and formality with all the bells and whistles you want. Maybe a stately home as your backdrop, a six-horse carriage to deliver you to the venue and an array of bridesmaids, ushers, and flower girls to drop rose petals at your feet as you walk down the aisle. A brass band playing in the background and a string quartet serenading you as you make your vows. Do you want to be on show to the world?
One thing you must remember is that your wedding day is just that – YOURS. You are not going through all the hassle of planning and preparing for anyone else. IT’S FOR YOU TWO and therefore it has to feel comfortable and right for both of you. It’s not about keeping up with the Jones’s or being able to brag about how much money it cost. It’s about how you show your love for each other and make your commitments to each other. And ladies, please remember, although it’s usually you that makes all the arrangements, your husband to be has as much right to what he wants as you do! Sometimes it takes some ‘difficult’ conversations with those who ‘want the best for you’ but you have to be true to yourselves or your special day will not be special.
If you would like more information about having a celebratory wedding ceremony, I’d be happy to talk to you about your ideas and how I, as and Independent Celebrant, can help you have the ceremony of your dreams.
