Terms & Conditions for Mary Richards Celebrant (for all bookings taken after 30/09/2023)

As much as I would like to do away with stuff like this unfortunately it is required by law. I’m trying to be as open and transparent as possible without boring you senseless. Please remember I’m here to help so if you have any queries just ask.

1. Mary Richards Celebrant’s Obligations:

As an Independent Celebrant I am not authorised to legally register your marriage, civil partnership or birth of a child. This must be organised separately with the Registration Service (but I can talk you through this if needed)

I will accept the information supplied by you and use this to create your ceremony. If this information is incorrect, I will not be held responsible for any losses or damages etc. as a consequence. But please note in choosing me as your celebrant you agree to me using a little creative imagination when I’m writing your ceremony based on the information you give me in your ‘Love Story’ questionnaire -I will explain further when we talk)

During the course of the contract I will work with you to create your ceremony but, if at any point I feel that the working relationship between us has become too fraught, too demanding or untenable, (in other words if you become the bride, groom or parent from hell!) I reserve the right to cancel our contract and refund any monies due as per the refund policy below, so please read it carefully.

2. Client Obligations:

You will provide information as requested by any due dates specified (so I can crack on with your ceremony and not be rushing at the last minute!)

You will pay any monies due by any due dates specified (no money – no ceremony!! ☹)

If you are having music at your ceremony it is your/the venue’s obligation to ensure the necessary licenses are in place (especially if you’re having an outdoor wedding or in a tipi etc. A one off licence is about £20 I think but don’t take my word for it, please check it out)

You will ensure Health & Safety measures are complied with at all times (Both myself and your guests will appreciate this!)

All scheduled outdoor ceremonies MUST have a back-up alternative option in the event of unreasonable weather conditions etc. I’m not adverse to wearing wellies if needed, but your guests may be, but I also reserve the right to decide what is ‘unreasonable weather’!

3. Payment Schedule /Refund Policy - All Ceremonies

Booking fee:         £50.00  secures your date - due within 7 days of booking/invoice date (non-refundable)

Deposit:                 50% of remaining balance & known costs - due 9 months prior to event (non-refundable after 30 days)

Final payment:    Remainder of balance & known costs – due 2 months prior to event - non-refundable, but travel expenses plus any accommodation expenses which are ‘free’ to cancel may be refundable if cancellation is received with at least 72  hours’ notice:

Less than 72 hours’ notice – no refunds

N.B: if a booking is made within 10 months of the event, then both the booking fee and deposit are due immediately and are non-refundable as per the above.

4. Additional costs:

The quote you received was based on the basic information you provided. As we discuss your plans and ideas additional costs may become evident so these will be discussed and agreed with you as necessary. (Examples of additional costs may be found on my website)

5. Postponements:

If for any reason you require the ceremony to be moved to another day the fee may be carried over to the new date assuming I am available on that day, but may be subject to additional costs (as above/see website) If I am unavailable on the new date I will, if possible, arrange for another celebrant to carry out your ceremony. If you prefer not to have my choice of celebrant or you source an alternative yourselves, the refund policy above will be applied.

6. Cancellations:

If you cancel for any reason – refer to refund policy above

7. If I am unable to officiate on the day (illness, bereavement, accident etc but this hasn’t happened yet, and hopefully never will!) I reserve the right, if time allows,  to ask another celebrant to officiate on my behalf, if successful – no refund

If a replacement is unavailable, the final payment (made two months before the event), will be refunded.

If you choose NOT to have my choice of replacement celebrant - no refund.

More small print:

8. Changes to these Terms:

I reserve the right to change or modify these Terms at any time where it is necessary in the course of my business to do so, including for legal, regulatory or security reasons. Any changes to T&Cs made after you have paid your deposit will not affect your booking, unless you ask for changes or amendments to your original booking, or I am required to make the change by law. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments about my terms, please contact me.
